Efforts of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz in support of tourism and heritage

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, made great efforts in the promoting tourism and heritage in the Kingdom in general, and in the capital city Riyadh, in particular when he was the Governor of the Riyadh region.
 
This, in addition to his continuing patronage for the conferences and exhibitions held by SCTH in Riyadh. His Majesty believed in the economic and cultural role of tourism, antiquities and heritage, especially in light of the rich potential of the Kingdom in such economic and cultural fields.
 
King Salman’s notable efforts in this area:
  • Patronizing SCTH program to develop State Palaces in the era of King Abdul Aziz, and visiting most of these palaces to monitor closely the work in progress.
  • Patronizing the ‘Heritage villages and Towns’ program, which was launched in the Riyadh province, starting with Al Ghat Municipality. His Majesty visited the project to inspect the work in progress, besides honoring the project-funding agreements between the Saudi Credit and Saving Bank (SCSB) and Al Ghat Cooperative Association for funding the project of Heritage Inns.
  • Development of Al Daryia, and closely following up its development and progress.
  • Involved personally in the service of the Kingdom's heritage through his position as the Chairperson of King Abdul Aziz Dara.
  • Inaugurated a number of projects, which serve tourism and heritage in Riyadh, including Wadi Hanifa Development Project, Wadi Namar, King Abdul Aziz Historical Center, public parks and the project of King Abdullah International Parks, which are carried out by a number of public departments under his Chairmanship, including the Ar-Riyadh Development Authority (ADA) and the Riyadh Governorate.
  • Patronizing the Annual Riyadh Tourism Festival and the Riyadh Eid events.
  • Chairing the meetings of Riyadh Tourism Development Council and approving Riyadh Tourism logo.
  • Patronizing the project of developing and rehabilitating Al Tawheed Pathway, which was used by King Abdul Aziz while unifying the Kingdom.
  • Supporting the establishment of the tourism development committees in eight municipalities across the Riyadh Province. They are: Al Kharj, Al Majm'a, Al Zolfi, Wadi Al Dawasir, Shagrah, Al Quaiwiah, Al Ghat and Thadiq Municipalities
  • Patronizing Al Zhaherah Development Project.
Lifetime Achievement Award in Urban Heritage Field:
 
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah protect him), has received Lifetime Achievement Award in the field of urban heritage. His Majesty received the award from His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz President of SCTH, Chairman of Al Turath, on Tuesday, 18 December 2012, at Qasr Al Muraba in King Abdul Aziz Historical Center in Riyadh.
 
The award was conferred on the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz in recognition of his tremendous efforts and leading achievements in the preservation and development of the urban heritage in the Riyadh province.  At the national level, His Majesty exerted enormously in the development of urban heritage economically and socially, as well as highlighting its importance as a major component of national identity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
